Darlington is working in partnership with all of the North East local authorities on a project to develop a North East regional smart ticketing system. Once in place this will provide a system available for use by all transport operators, which will allow payment of fares by smart card or other electronic methods. The system will be compatible with the national standard for smart ticketing, enabling residents here to use their smart card elsewhere in the UK and visitors to use a card from elsewhere in the country, here in the North East.
